Alloxantin

(al-oks-an'-tin) [alloxan], C 8 H 4 N 4 7 + 3H 2 0. A substance obtained by reducing alloxan with SnCl 2 , zinc, and HC1, or H 2 S in the cold. It occurs in small, hard, color- less prisms that turn red when treated with ammonia.
