CAMK1G (gene)
CAMK1G (Calcium/Calmodulin Dependent Protein Kinase IG) is a gene that encodes a member of the calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase family. This gene is located on the short arm of chromosome 10 (10p13). The protein encoded by this gene is a type of serine/threonine kinase, which is involved in many cellular processes, including cell division, differentiation, and metabolism.
Function[edit | edit source]
The CAMK1G gene encodes a protein that is part of the calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase family. These kinases are activated by calcium and calmodulin and are involved in a variety of cellular functions. The protein encoded by CAMK1G is known to play a crucial role in the regulation of cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and cell differentiation. It is also involved in the regulation of gene expression and protein synthesis.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
Mutations in the CAMK1G gene have been associated with various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. The protein encoded by this gene is also thought to play a role in the development of the nervous system and in the regulation of immune response.
