CD300LB (gene)

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

CD300LB is a gene that in humans is encoded by the CD300LB gene. It is also known as CD300 molecule like family member b or CLM-6. This gene is a member of the CD300 gene family which includes several immunoglobulin superfamily members that are expressed on leukocytes and are likely to play a role in immune response.

Function[edit | edit source]

The CD300LB gene encodes a protein that is a member of the CD300 family of cell surface proteins found on leukocytes. These proteins generate intracellular signals following activation by extracellular ligands. The encoded protein interacts with the TYRO protein tyrosine kinase binding protein and plays a role in macrophage activation and lung inflammation.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Alterations in the CD300LB gene have been associated with susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune disease.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The CD300LB gene is located on the q arm of chromosome 17 at position 12. It spans 16,597 base pairs and is composed of 5 exons. The encoded protein has 4 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains and 1 ITIM (immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibition motif) domain.

Expression[edit | edit source]

CD300LB is expressed in a variety of tissues, including lymphoid tissue, spleen, bone marrow, and peripheral blood leukocytes. It is also expressed in macrophages and dendritic cells.
