• The city was named after John W. McLoud, an attorney for the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad. McLoud was known for its large number of Scots-Irish settlers, who brought their unique culture and traditions to the area.

• McLoud is located in the central part of Oklahoma, approximately 30 miles east of Oklahoma City. The city covers an area of 8.4 square miles, of which the vast majority is land.
