Resting metabolic rate is the term used to denote the amount of energy consumed by the body at rest not counting physical activity.

Effect of body weight[edit | edit source]

It was shown that overweight men and women (obese included) have increased resting metabolic rate and increased total energy expenditure when compared to their lean counterparts.
