Sangu

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellnesspedia

Sangu is a term that originates from Latin, meaning "blood". In a medical context, it is often used as a prefix to denote concepts related to blood, such as in the term "sanguineous", which refers to a blood-filled condition or the color of blood.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Blood is a vital fluid in the human body that performs a variety of functions. It transports oxygen and nutrients to the cells, removes waste products, and plays a crucial role in the body's immune response and clotting mechanisms. The study of blood and its disorders is known as hematology.

Components of Blood[edit | edit source]

Blood is composed of several components: red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), platelets (thrombocytes), and plasma. Each of these components has a specific function in the body.

Red Blood Cells[edit | edit source]

Red blood cells, or erythrocytes, are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs. They contain a protein called hemoglobin that binds to oxygen.

White Blood Cells[edit | edit source]

White blood cells, or leukocytes, are part of the body's immune system. They help the body fight off infections by attacking bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens that invade the body.

Platelets[edit | edit source]

Platelets, or thrombocytes, are small cell fragments that play a crucial role in blood clotting. When a blood vessel is injured, platelets clump together to form a plug that helps stop the bleeding.

Plasma[edit | edit source]

Plasma is the liquid component of blood, in which the blood cells and platelets are suspended. It makes up about 55% of the body's total blood volume. Plasma carries nutrients, hormones, and proteins throughout the body.

Blood Disorders[edit | edit source]

There are many disorders that can affect the blood, including anemia, leukemia, hemophilia, and sickle cell disease. These disorders can affect the production or function of one or more components of the blood.
