Stella Artois

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Stella Artois is a Belgian pilsner of between 4.8 and 5.2% ABV which was first brewed by Brouwerij Artois (the Artois Brewery) in Leuven, Belgium, in 1926. Since 2008, a 4.8% ABV version is also sold in Britain, Ireland, Canada and Australia. Stella Artois is now owned by Interbrew International B.V., a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev.

History[edit | edit source]

The Artois Brewery was established in 1366 in Leuven, a city in the Flanders region of Belgium. The brewery was named after Sebastian Artois, who was the master brewer at the Den Hoorn brewery in Leuven. In 1708, Artois purchased the brewery, and it became known as the Artois Brewery.

In 1926, the Artois brewery launched Stella as a festive beer, named after the Christmas star. Initially, Stella Artois was a seasonal beer, brewed for the Christmas holiday season. However, due to its popularity, it eventually became available year-round.

Production[edit | edit source]

Stella Artois is brewed using natural ingredients in the same brewing process used since its creation. These ingredients are malted barley, water, hops and yeast. The brewing process involves the fermentation of the malted barley, which is then combined with the hops and yeast.

Taste[edit | edit source]

Stella Artois has a crisp, slightly bitter taste and a clean finish, with a hint of 'fruitiness.' It is a full-flavored, high-quality beer that has a pleasing hop aroma.

Packaging[edit | edit source]

Stella Artois is available in a variety of packaging formats, including on draught, in bottles, and in cans. The packaging design includes the Stella Artois logo, which features a horn, a symbol of the original Den Hoorn brewery, and the year 1366, representing the brewery's long history.

Global Presence[edit | edit source]

Stella Artois is one of the world’s best-selling beers and is enjoyed in more than 80 countries. Its full, characteristic flavour and high quality is assured through a superior brewing process and by using the finest ingredients available.
