Tobey–Ayer Test
The Tobey–Ayer test is a diagnostic test used to measure the activity of the enzyme hexosaminidase A in the body. Hexosaminidase A is an enzyme that is essential for the breakdown of certain sugars in the body, and a deficiency in this enzyme can lead to a rare genetic disorder called Tay-Sachs disease. The Tobey–Ayer test involves measuring the amount of hexosaminidase A in a sample of blood or spinal fluid. A deficiency in hexosaminidase A is indicative of Tay-Sachs disease, and this test is used to diagnose the disorder and to monitor treatment progress.
