United States Army

United States Army is the land service branch of the United States Armed Forces. It is one of the eight U.S. uniformed services and is designated as the Army of the United States in the U.S. Constitution. As the oldest and most senior branch of the U.S. military in order of precedence, the modern U.S. Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed 14 June 1775 to fight the American Revolutionary War.

History

The United States Army was established by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775, in response to the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The army played a crucial role in the victory of the Thirteen Colonies over the British Empire, leading to the establishment of the United States of America.

Structure

The United States Army is made up of three components: the active component, the Regular Army; and two reserve components, the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. Both reserve components are primarily composed of part-time soldiers who train once a month, known as Battle Assembly or Unit Training Assemblies (UTAs), and conduct two to three weeks of annual training each year.

Operations

The United States Army conducts various operations ranging from combat operations, peacekeeping operations, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief. The Army has been involved in major conflicts including the World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan.

Training

Training in the Army is generally divided into two categories - Individual Training and Collective Training. Individual Training is where soldiers learn how to perform their Army job or Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). Collective Training is where soldiers learn to work together as a team.

Equipment

The United States Army uses a wide range of equipment, from small arms like the M16 rifle and M4 carbine, to larger weapon systems like the M1 Abrams tank and the AH-64 Apache helicopter.
