Vonitsa-Xiromero
Vonitsa-Xiromero is a municipality in the Aetolia-Acarnania regional unit, Greece. The municipality was formed at the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities of Vonitsa and Xiromero, that became municipal units. The municipality has an area of 716.574 km^2. The seat of the municipality is in Vonitsa.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Vonitsa-Xiromero is located in the southwestern part of Aetolia-Acarnania. It is bordered by the Ionian Sea to the west, the regional unit of Arta to the north, and the regional unit of Preveza to the northwest. The Ambracian Gulf lies to the north. The area is characterized by a mix of mountains, hills, and plains, with the Achelous River running through it.

The area of Vonitsa-Xiromero has a rich history dating back to ancient times. It was part of the region of Acarnania in ancient Greece, and was known for its strategic location and fertile lands. The area has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, and has been under the rule of various empires and kingdoms throughout history, including the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and the Ottoman Empire.
