Arachova

Arachova (Greek: Αράχωβα) is a mountain town and a former municipality in the western part of Boeotia, Greece. It is situated on the southern slope of Mount Parnassus, at an altitude of 960 meters. Known for its picturesque houses and cobbled streets, Arachova is famous for its panoramic views, upscale hotels and boutique shopping.

Arachova has a rich history dating back to ancient times. It was an important city in ancient Phocis, and it played a significant role in the Persian Wars. The town is also associated with the legendary hero Odysseus, who is said to have passed through the area during his journey home from the Trojan War.

Arachova is known for its vibrant local culture. The town is famous for its bright multi-colored carpets and textiles, known as flokati rugs. The local cuisine is also noteworthy, with traditional dishes such as formaela cheese, hilopites (egg noodles), and spit-roasted lamb being popular.

One of the most important events in Arachova is the annual Panigyraki festival, which takes place in November. The festival, which lasts for three days, is dedicated to Saint George and includes processions, traditional music and dance, and a reenactment of a local legend.
