The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), also known as Congo-Kinshasa, is a country located in Central Africa. In 2016, the DRC had an adult obesity rate of 6.7%, ranking it 164th globally.

Obesity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo[edit | edit source]

Obesity, defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, is a significant health issue in many countries, including the DRC. Despite its relatively low global ranking, the issue of obesity is still a concern for the country's healthcare system.

Healthcare in the Democratic Republic of the Congo[edit | edit source]

The healthcare system in the DRC is a mix of public and private providers. The public healthcare system is primarily funded by the government and international donors, while the private sector includes both for-profit and non-profit providers.

One of the well-known healthcare facilities in the DRC that offers weight loss programs is the Kinshasa General Hospital. This hospital provides a comprehensive weight management program that includes nutritional counseling, physical activity guidance, and medical interventions if necessary.

The government of the DRC, in collaboration with international organizations such as the WHO, has implemented various initiatives to combat obesity.
