Safedom

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Safedom is a term that refers to the state of being safe and free. In a medical context, safedom can be associated with the concept of patient safety and patient rights, ensuring that individuals are protected from harm and have the freedom to make informed decisions about their healthcare.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Patient safety is a discipline in the health care sector that emphasizes safety in health care through the prevention, reduction, reporting, and analysis of medical error that often leads to adverse effects. The frequency and magnitude of avoidable adverse patient events were not well known until the 1990s, when multiple countries reported staggering numbers of patients harmed and killed by medical errors.

Patient Safety[edit | edit source]

Patient safety has emerged as a distinct healthcare discipline supported by an immature yet developing scientific framework. There is a significant transdisciplinary body of theoretical and research literature that informs the science of patient safety. The resulting patient safety knowledge continually informs improvement efforts such as: applying lessons learned from business and industry, adopting innovative technologies, educating providers and consumers, enhancing error reporting systems, and developing new economic incentives.

Patient Rights[edit | edit source]

Patient rights is a subset of human rights. They are the rights of every individual to receive effective, safe, high-quality health care services without discrimination. Patient rights include the right to receive accurate information, to be involved in decision-making, to privacy and confidentiality, to respect and dignity, to quality care and safe environment, and to complain about care and have complaints reviewed.

Importance of Safedom in Healthcare[edit | edit source]

Safedom in healthcare is crucial as it ensures that patients are protected from harm and have the freedom to make informed decisions about their healthcare. It is a fundamental principle that underpins all health care delivery. Safedom is not only about physical safety but also about psychological safety, which includes respecting the rights and dignity of patients.
