Shunde

Shunde is a district in the city of Foshan, in the province of Guangdong, China. It is known for its economic prosperity, vibrant culture, and rich history. Shunde is also famous for its culinary tradition, being recognized as the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine.

Shunde was established as a county in the Tang Dynasty (618–907). It was promoted to a higher administrative level, a city, in 1994. In 2002, it was merged with the city of Foshan and became a district of Foshan.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Shunde is located in the Pearl River Delta, bordered by Guangzhou to the north and Zhongshan to the south. It covers an area of 806 square kilometers.

Shunde is one of the richest districts in Guangdong province. It is known for its thriving manufacturing industry, particularly in home appliances and furniture. Major companies such as Midea Group and Country Garden have their headquarters in Shunde.
