Tito's Vodka

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Tito's Vodka is a brand of vodka produced in the United States, specifically in Austin, Texas. It was founded by Bert "Tito" Beveridge in 1997, making it the first legal distillery in Texas since the Prohibition era.

History[edit | edit source]

Bert "Tito" Beveridge, a geologist and geophysicist by training, started producing flavored vodkas as gifts for friends. Encouraged by the positive feedback, he founded Fifth Generation Inc. and established the Mockingbird Distillery to produce Tito's Vodka.

Tito's Vodka was initially produced in a pot still, a method typically used for fine single-malt scotches and high-end French cognacs. This technique, along with the use of yellow corn instead of the more commonly used wheat or potatoes, results in a mild, sweet aftertaste, making Tito's a distinctly smooth vodka.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Tito's Vodka has received numerous awards for its quality. In 2001, it won the Double Gold Medal for vodka at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, an accolade that helped establish its reputation in the spirits industry.

Production[edit | edit source]

Tito's Vodka is made from 100% corn and is distilled six times. The vodka is produced in Austin's first and oldest legal distillery. It is made in small batches in an old-fashioned pot still, a rarity in today's vodka production, and water-filtered through reverse osmosis, which removes any impurities.

Philanthropy[edit | edit source]

Tito's Vodka is known for its philanthropic efforts, particularly in animal welfare. The company's "Vodka for Dog People" program aims to better the lives of pets and their families.
