From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

United Health Services (UHS) is a non-profit hospital and the largest healthcare services provider in the Southern Tier area of upstate New York. It was founded in 1981 through the consolidation of three community hospitals in Greater Binghamton. UHS has since expanded to include four hospitals, long-term care and home care services, walk-in centers, and affiliated physician practices in Broome and surrounding counties.

UHS operates primary care centers and school-based health centers in several counties, providing primary and preventive care to the local population. With a workforce of 6,300 employees across 60 locations, UHS is one of the region's largest employers. It cares for two-thirds of the Southern Tier region's population and generates $1.3 billion in total non-profit economic impact annually.

As the regional referral center, UHS offers a wide range of medical specialties, including trauma and emergency care, heart and vascular surgery, neurosurgery, cancer care, orthopedics, behavioral health services, and more. UHS Wilson Medical Center, a teaching hospital, hosts a medical residency program in affiliation with SUNY Upstate Medical University and the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.
