Universidad Central del Este

Universidad Central del Este (UCE) is a private university located in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic. Founded on October 15, 1970, by Dr. José Hazim Azar, it was established with the primary aim of providing higher education opportunities in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic. The university is recognized for its significant contributions to the field of medical education, among other areas of study.

History

The foundation of Universidad Central del Este was driven by the vision of its founder to create an educational institution that could serve the local community and contribute to the development of the Dominican Republic. Initially focusing on medicine, UCE has expanded its academic offerings over the years to include a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines.

Academic Programs

The most prominent of these is the Faculty of Medical Sciences, which provides a comprehensive medical program leading to the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD). Faculty of Medical Sciences

UCE's medical graduates are eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and the Dominican Republic's medical licensure exam, enabling them to practice medicine both locally and internationally.
