The photograph is of Dr. Thomas Starzl, taken after performing a transplant surgery around 1990. The surgery took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Presbyterian Hospital. The photograph was taken by Barry Hogue of UPMC.
This photograph shows Thomas Starzl doing the work that he is most famously recognized for. It will also be used to visually identify him in the article.
