A virtual folder in Windows Vista is physically an XML file, which encodes the search string, with an .search-ms extension.

This software is copyrighted, but its screenshot is being used in the Windows Search article under U.S. fair use laws, because:

• it helps to visually identify the software; in that sense it furthers the goal of providing verifiable information.
• it does not limit, nor does it claim to, limit the rights of the copyright holder.
