Neltenexine
(Redirected from Alveoten)
Neltenexine is a pharmaceutical drug used in the treatment of respiratory diseases. It is classified as a mucolytic agent, which means it works by breaking down mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The term "Neltenexine" is derived from the chemical name of the drug, which is "N-ethyl-1-phenyl-3-(1-piperidinyl)-1-propanamine". The "Nel" part of the name comes from "N-ethyl", the "ten" part comes from "1-phenyl", and the "exine" part comes from "1-piperidinyl".
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Neltenexine works by breaking down the glycoproteins in mucus, making it less viscous and easier to cough up. This helps to clear the airways and improve breathing in patients with respiratory diseases.
Clinical Use[edit | edit source]
Neltenexine is used in the treatment of various respiratory diseases, including chronic bronchitis, asthma, and cystic fibrosis. It is usually administered orally in the form of tablets.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Like all drugs, Neltenexine can cause side effects. These may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can cause serious side effects such as allergic reactions and liver damage.
