Use in article (WP:NFCC#7)	Irving Gottesman
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8)	Serves to identify the subject of the article (lead image).
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1)	No free picture found. Searched extensively, all pictures are similar (no tags at all, which means they are copyrighted). Gottesman is retired and 82 years old, so asking for a photo session isn't viable. He did serve in the Army in the Korean War, but couldn't find any service photos; those photos from so long ago probably would not be suitable as the lead image for an article about a distinguished retired professor anyway. There are photos of him from a Festschrift at Southern Illinois University here: http://www.siumed.edu/iigfest/photos.html. I asked the organizer, Prof. Lisabeth DiLalla, directly for a PD/CC3.0 release, but with no success.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3)	This is the only non-free-fair-use photo in the article. This is used only in one article. Resolution does not matter, since this is a photo of a person, and intended to show him clearly.
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2)	This is a photo of a retired professor, and has no commercial value. It has been posted all over the net, often by Gottesman himself.
