My name is Prab Tumpati and I started this website, along with some friends, in order to build a free open source medical encyclopedia editable by any one. Having started successful websites like Residentscafe, a popular website for residents and residency applicants, Believerscafe and WikiChristian.org, I felt a strong need for a medical wiki that is written and updated by users from all over the world. While there are some great general encyclopedia's such as wikipedia, there are no specialized medical wiki encyclopedias to my knowledge.

WikiMD was set up to provide the platform for people around the world to document and share all human knowledge in the feild of health sciences. While this might seem a daunting task, it is not an impossible task given the collaborative potential in wiki's. Wikipedia was setup by 2 motivated people in 2001 and today provides hundreds of thousands of useful pages as they build the world's biggest free wiki encyclopedia. As the old adage goes, there is power in unity.
