Help:Link

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Help:Link is a fundamental feature of MediaWiki that allows users to create connections between different pages within the same wiki or to external resources. Links are essential for navigation, for tracing the history of a topic, and for categorizing information.

Types of Links[edit | edit source]

There are two main types of links in MediaWiki: Internal links and External links.

Internal Links[edit | edit source]

Internal links connect pages within the same wiki. They are created using double square brackets ([[ ]]). The syntax is simple: Page Name. If the page exists, the link will be blue; if it doesn't, the link will be red.

Internal links can also be formatted to display different text than the page name. This is done by adding a pipe (|) followed by the desired display text: Display Text.

External Links[edit | edit source]

External links connect to resources outside the wiki. They are created using single square brackets ([ ]). The syntax is: [URL Display Text]. Unlike internal links, external links do not change color based on whether the destination exists.

Linking to Specific Sections[edit | edit source]

Links can also target specific sections of a page. This is done by adding a hash (#) followed by the section name to the page name: Page Name#Section Name. If the section name contains spaces, replace them with underscores (_).
