Capsule of the Glenohumeral Joint
The Capsule of the Glenohumeral Joint is the articular capsule of the shoulder joint. It is a crucial component of the shoulder that completely surrounds the joint, providing stability and allowing for a wide range of motion.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The Capsule of the Glenohumeral Joint is attached above to the circumference of the glenoid cavity beyond the glenoidal labrum, and below to the anatomical neck of the humerus. It approaches nearer to the articular cartilage above than in the rest of its extent.
Function[edit | edit source]
The primary function of the Capsule of the Glenohumeral Joint is to encase and protect the shoulder joint. It also helps to provide stability to the joint and allows for a wide range of motion.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
Injuries or disorders affecting the Capsule of the Glenohumeral Joint can lead to a variety of shoulder problems, including shoulder pain, frozen shoulder, and shoulder instability.
