Help:Template‏‎

A template in MediaWiki is a special type of page that can be included in other pages. Templates are used to insert the same content in multiple articles to ensure consistency across similar articles. They can also be used to add complex formatting to pages in a simpler way.

Usage[edit | edit source]

To include a template in a page, the name of the template is added inside double curly braces, like this: Template:Template name. The template will then be included at that point in the page.

Templates can also have parameters, which are specified inside the curly braces. For example, Template:Template name. The parameters can be used to customize the content of the template for each page it is included in.

Types of Templates[edit | edit source]

There are several types of templates in MediaWiki, including:

  • Infobox templates - These templates are used to present a summary of the article in a consistent format. They are usually placed at the top right of the article.
  • Navigation templates - These templates are used to link related articles together. They are usually placed at the bottom of the article.
  • Stub templates - These templates are used to mark articles that are too short and need to be expanded. For example,

for food articles and

for medicine articles.

Creating Templates[edit | edit source]

To create a new template, a new page is created in the Template namespace. The content of the template is then added to this page. Templates can include wikitext, HTML, and other templates.
