Arteria ovarica
Arteria Ovarica or the Ovarian Artery is a significant blood vessel in the female reproductive system. It is responsible for supplying blood to the ovary, uterine tube, ureter, and some parts of the uterus.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The Arteria Ovarica originates from the abdominal aorta, typically below the renal artery. It travels down the posterior layer of the broad ligament of the uterus, crossing over the ureter and the external iliac artery to reach the ovary.
Function[edit | edit source]
The primary function of the Arteria Ovarica is to supply oxygenated blood to the ovary. It also provides blood to the uterine tube, parts of the uterus, and the ureter.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
The Arteria Ovarica is a critical structure in several surgical procedures, including oophorectomy and hysterectomy. Its damage or accidental ligation can lead to significant complications, including ovarian necrosis and infertility.
