Chemistry[edit | edit source]
DAM-57 is a benzodiazepine derivative. Benzodiazepines are essentially psychoactive drugs whose core chemical structure includes a benzene ring and a diazepine ring. The chemical name of DAM-57 is 7-chloro-5-(2-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-1-methyl-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
The pharmacological action of DAM-57 is similar to other benzodiazepines. It enhances the effect of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at the GABAA receptor, resulting in sedative, hypnotic (sleep-inducing), anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant properties.
Medical Uses[edit | edit source]
DAM-57, like other benzodiazepines, is used in the treatment of a variety of conditions including anxiety disorders, insomnia, seizure disorders, muscle spasms, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, benzodiazepine withdrawal, Meniere's disease, and panic disorder.
