DO

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

DO is a term that can refer to several different concepts, depending on the context. It may refer to the title used by osteopathic physicians in the United States, the abbreviation for Dissolved Oxygen, or the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code for the Dominican Republic.

Osteopathic Medicine[edit | edit source]

A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is a professional doctoral degree for physicians and surgeons offered by medical schools in the United States. A DO graduate may become licensed as an osteopathic physician, having equivalent rights, privileges, and responsibilities as a physician who has earned the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. DO physicians are known for their focus on preventive medicine and holistic patient care; they are trained to consider the health of the whole person and use a hands-on diagnostic tool called Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT).

Dissolved Oxygen[edit | edit source]

Dissolved Oxygen (DO) is the amount of oxygen that is present in water. It is a crucial indicator of the health of a water body and its ability to support a balanced aquatic ecosystem. The amount of DO in water depends on the temperature, salinity, and pressure of the water. High levels of DO are generally beneficial for the aquatic life, while low levels may be harmful or even lethal to aquatic organisms.

Dominican Republic[edit | edit source]

The Dominican Republic (DO) is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean region. It occupies the eastern five-eighths of the island, which it shares with the nation of Haiti, making Hispaniola one of two Caribbean islands, along with Saint Martin, that are shared by two sovereign states. The Dominican Republic is the second-largest nation in the Antilles by area (after Cuba) and third by population. This disambiguation page lists articles associated with the title DO.
