A deodorizer is a substance or device used to eliminate or mask unpleasant odors. Absorbent deodorizers work by absorbing odor molecules. Common materials used include activated charcoal, baking soda, and zeolites. These substances have porous structures that trap odor molecules, effectively removing them from the air.
2. Masking Agents[edit | edit source]
Masking agents do not eliminate odors but instead cover them with a more pleasant scent. These are often found in air fresheners and scented candles. While they provide immediate relief from bad smells, they do not address the source of the odor.
3. Chemical Neutralizers[edit | edit source]
Chemical neutralizers react with odor molecules to neutralize them. For example, ozone generators produce ozone, which reacts with odor-causing compounds to eliminate them. However, ozone can be harmful to health, so its use is regulated.
4. Biological Deodorizers[edit | edit source]
Biological deodorizers use enzymes or bacteria to break down organic matter that causes odors. These are often used in waste treatment facilities and composting systems.

Deodorizers are used in a variety of settings:
- Household Use:Commonly used in kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas to maintain a fresh environment.

While deodorizers can improve air quality, some may contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be harmful if inhaled in large quantities. It is important to use deodorizers according to the manufacturer's instructions and ensure proper ventilation.

Some deodorizers, particularly those containing synthetic chemicals, can have negative environmental impacts. Biodegradable and natural deodorizers are preferred for their lower environmental footprint.
