Candidate of Sciences is a postgraduate academic degree and title given after the completion of a dissertation and the public defense of a thesis. This degree is awarded in some countries of the former Soviet Union (including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and others) and in some post-Soviet states. The Candidate of Sciences degree is generally considered equivalent to the Ph.D. in Western countries. It is the first of two doctoral level degrees, the second being Doctor of Sciences (D.Sc.). To be eligible for the Candidate of Sciences, an individual must typically hold a Master's degree or equivalent.
The process of obtaining the degree involves a significant amount of independent research in a specific field, followed by the writing of a thesis that contributes new knowledge or understanding to the field. The thesis must be defended in front of an academic committee. Successful defense of the thesis grants the individual the title of "Candidate of Sciences," which is recognized as a significant academic achievement and is a prerequisite for pursuing a career in academia in the countries where it is awarded.
The Candidate of Sciences degree is often a requirement for faculty positions at universities and research institutions. It also qualifies individuals for various high-level research and development positions in industry and government.
Domestic Long-haired Cat refers to a cat of mixed breed or of no particular breed that possesses a long coat. Unlike their short-haired counterparts, domestic long-haired cats require more grooming due to their longer fur, which can become matted if not cared for properly. These cats come in all ranges of colors and patterns. The long hair trait can appear in any litter due to the recessive nature of the long hair gene.
Domestic long-haired cats are known for their gentle and calm demeanor, making them popular pets. Their origins are not well-documented, but long hair in cats is believed to be a mutation that occurred naturally. Over time, these cats have been bred for their aesthetic appeal, leading to the variety of long-haired breeds we see today, such as the Persian cat, Maine Coon, and Norwegian Forest Cat.
Caring for a domestic long-haired cat involves regular grooming to prevent tangles and mats in their fur. This includes brushing, which helps to remove loose hair and reduce shedding, and may also involve professional grooming services for trimming or bathing.
Domestic long-haired cats are prone to the same health issues as other cats, but they may have an increased risk of hairballs due to their long fur. Providing a diet that helps reduce hairballs and regular grooming can help manage this issue.
