Ebullition refers to the rapid release of gas bubbles from a liquid when it is heated to its boiling point, causing it to change from a liquid to a gaseous state. This physical process is commonly observed in everyday life, such as when water is boiled in a kettle.

Ebullition occurs when the temperature of a liquid reaches its boiling point, the temperature at which the vapor pressure of the liquid equals the external pressure acting on the liquid's surface. At this point, bubbles of vapor form within the liquid and rise to the surface, releasing the gas into the atmosphere. This process is crucial in various applications, including culinary practices like cooking and in industrial processes such as distillation.

The process of ebullition begins with the formation of small vapor bubbles within the liquid, known as nucleation. Nucleation typically occurs at hot spots on the container's surface or on impurities within the liquid where the energy barrier for vapor formation is lower.
