Spider

A spider

A spider is an arthropod that belongs to the order Araneae. They are the largest order of arachnids and rank seventh in total species diversity among all orders of organisms[1]. Spiders are found worldwide on every continent except for Antarctica, and have become established in nearly every habitat with the exceptions of air and sea colonization[2].

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

Spiders differ from other arthropods in their bodies, which are divided into two tagmata: the prosoma, or cephalothorax, and the opisthosoma, or abdomen[3].

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Spiders exhibit a range of behaviors that include predation, courtship, and the building of webs or other types of spider silk structures[4].

Classification[edit | edit source]

Spiders are classified in the order Araneae, one of the three orders in the larger group of arachnids. The other two orders are Scorpiones (scorpions) and Opiliones (harvestmen)[5].
