A spider

A spider is an arthropod that belongs to the order Araneae. They are the largest order of arachnids and rank seventh in total species diversity among all orders of organisms. Spiders are found worldwide on every continent except for Antarctica, and have become established in nearly every habitat with the exceptions of air and sea colonization.

Anatomy

Spiders differ from other arthropods in their bodies, which are divided into two tagmata: the prosoma, or cephalothorax, and the opisthosoma, or abdomen.

Behavior

Spiders exhibit a range of behaviors that include predation, courtship, and the building of webs or other types of spider silk structures.

Classification

Spiders are classified in the order Araneae, one of the three orders in the larger group of arachnids. The other two orders are Scorpiones (scorpions) and Opiliones (harvestmen).
