Exposure time

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Exposure time refers to the duration for which a subject is exposed to a particular condition or influence. In the context of photography, it is the length of time when the film or digital sensor inside the camera is exposed to light. In medicine, it can refer to the duration for which an individual is exposed to a particular pathogen, drug, or environmental condition.

Photography[edit | edit source]

In photography, exposure time is one of the three pillars of photography, the other two being ISO and Aperture. It is measured in seconds or fractions of a second. The longer the exposure time, the more light will hit the sensor. Therefore, longer exposure times are often used in low light conditions, while shorter exposure times can be used to freeze motion.

Medicine[edit | edit source]

In medicine, exposure time can refer to the duration for which an individual is exposed to a particular pathogen, drug, or environmental condition. This can be a critical factor in determining the severity of an illness or the effectiveness of a treatment. For example, prolonged exposure to certain chemicals or radiation can lead to serious health problems, while short exposure times may have little or no effect.
