FDR or Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945) was an American statesman and political leader who served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in the Hudson Valley town of Hyde Park, New York. His father, James Roosevelt I, and his mother, Sara Ann Delano, were sixth cousins and both came from wealthy old New York families.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Roosevelt entered politics in 1910 and served in the New York State Senate. His successful leadership during the Great Depression and World War II, despite his physical disability, has made him one of the most revered presidents in American history.

Presidency[edit | edit source]

Roosevelt was elected as the 32nd president of the United States in 1932. During his presidency, he implemented a series of programs and reforms known as the New Deal to stabilize the economy and provide jobs and relief to those who were suffering.

Death[edit | edit source]

Roosevelt died on April 12, 1945, in Warm Springs, Georgia, while still in office. He was succeeded by his vice president, Harry S. Truman.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Roosevelt's legacy includes the creation of the Social Security system, the establishment of the National Labor Relations Board, and the redefinition of the role of the federal government in the lives of Americans.
