Iliofemoral
Iliofemoral is a term that refers to the region of the body where the iliac and femoral arteries are located. This area is significant in the field of medicine and anatomy due to its role in supplying blood to the lower extremities.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The iliofemoral region is located in the lower abdomen and upper thigh. It includes the iliac artery, which branches off from the aorta, and the femoral artery, which is a continuation of the iliac artery. These arteries supply blood to the pelvis and lower limbs.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
The iliofemoral region is often involved in various medical conditions and procedures. For example, Iliofemoral Ligament injuries can occur due to trauma or overuse. In addition, the iliofemoral approach is commonly used in angiography and other vascular procedures.
Iliofemoral Ligament[edit | edit source]
The iliofemoral ligament is a strong ligament located in the hip joint. It is also known as the Y-ligament or the ligament of Bigelow. This ligament plays a crucial role in stabilizing the hip joint and preventing hyperextension.
Iliofemoral Approach[edit | edit source]
The iliofemoral approach is a technique used in vascular procedures such as angiography. This approach involves inserting a catheter into the femoral artery and guiding it up to the area of interest. The iliofemoral approach is preferred in certain situations due to its direct route and large vessel size.
