Italian Argentine

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Italian Argentine refers to Argentine citizens of Italian descent or Italian-born people who reside in Argentina. Italy has been the largest contributor to immigration in Argentina, with over 60% of the Argentine population having full or partial Italian ancestry.

History[edit | edit source]

Italian immigration to Argentina began in the 19th century, just after Argentina won its independence from Spain. The first Italians to arrive in Argentina were from Piedmont and Lombardy, two regions in northern Italy. They were attracted by the opportunity to build a new life in a country that was rich in natural resources and had a growing economy.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a second wave of Italian immigrants arrived in Argentina. This wave was much larger and more diverse, with immigrants coming from all regions of Italy. They were attracted by the promise of land and the opportunity to participate in Argentina's booming agricultural industry.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Italian Argentines have made significant contributions to Argentine culture. Italian influence can be seen in Argentine music, food, and language. The tango, a dance and music genre that originated in Argentina, was heavily influenced by Italian immigrants. Italian cuisine has also had a significant impact on Argentine food, with dishes like pizza, pasta, and gelato being popular throughout the country.

Notable Italian Argentines[edit | edit source]

There are many notable Italian Argentines in various fields. In politics, several Argentine presidents have been of Italian descent, including Carlos Menem and Néstor Kirchner. In sports, many Argentine footballers, such as Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi, have Italian ancestry. In the arts, Italian Argentines have made significant contributions to literature, film, and music.
