Labioplasty

Labiaplasty (also known as labial reduction) is a surgical procedure that aims to alter the labia minora and the labia majora, the folds of skin surrounding the human vulva. The size, color, and shape of labia vary significantly, and may change as a result of childbirth, aging, and other events.

Indications

Labiaplasty can be performed for functional, aesthetic, or reconstructive purposes. Some women may experience physical discomfort or psychological distress due to the size or shape of their labia, which can be alleviated through this procedure.

Procedure

The procedure involves the removal of excess tissue from the labia, and may also involve the reduction of the clitoral hood in some cases. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, and patients can typically return to work within a week.

Risks and complications

As with any surgical procedure, labiaplasty carries potential risks and complications. These may include infection, bleeding, and changes in sensation. Some women may also experience dissatisfaction with the aesthetic outcome of the procedure.
