Louisiana, a state located in the southern region of the United States, is unique in that it is divided into political subdivisions known as parishes, equivalent to counties in other states. There are 64 parishes in Louisiana.

Largest and Smallest Counties[edit | edit source]

The largest parish by land area is Cameron Parish, which spans over 1,313 square miles. Despite its size, it is sparsely populated, with a population of just over 6,000.

On the other hand, the smallest parish is Kalb Parish, which covers an area of just 16 square miles. Despite its small size, it has a population of over 10,000, making it one of the most densely populated parishes in the state.

The most populous parish in Louisiana is East Baton Rouge Parish, with a population of over 440,000. The least populous parish is Tensas Parish, with a population of just over 5,000.

Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson Parish is the largest healthcare facility in the state, offering a wide range of medical services and specialties.
