NCQA

NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. It was founded in 1990 and is based in Washington, D.C., United States. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and manages the evolution of HEDIS, the performance measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of the nation's health plans.

History

Accreditation and Certification

HEDIS

HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) is a tool used by more than 90 percent of America's health plans to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service. HEDIS is developed and maintained by NCQA and is used by health plans, regulators, consumers, and others to compare the performance of health care organizations.

Recognition Programs

NCQA offers several recognition programs for medical practices, including Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), Patient-Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP), and others. These programs recognize practices that use evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long-term participative relationships.
