Obstetrics and gynecology
(Redirected from Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Obstetrics and Gynecology is a branch of medicine that concentrates on the care of women during pregnancy and childbirth, and the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive organs. It also deals with other women’s health concerns like menopause, hormone problems, birth control, and infertility. Also known as ob/gyn.
Obstetrics[edit | edit source]
Obstetrics is the surgical branch that focuses on the care of a woman and her child during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium (the time shortly after birth). Obstetrics involves regular health checkups, management of high-risk pregnancies, prenatal testing, and assisting with the childbirth process. This specialization ensures that both mother and child receive optimum care during the gestation period and immediately after.
Gynecology[edit | edit source]
Gynecology, often paired with obstetrics, deals with the health of the female reproductive system, covering the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions affecting the uterus, vagina, ovaries, and breasts. This also encompasses issues like menstrual problems, contraception, sexuality, menopause, and infertility treatments.
