Primipara
Primipara is a term used in Obstetrics to describe a woman who is giving birth for the first time. The term is derived from Latin, with "primi-" meaning first and "-para" meaning to bear or bring forth. The term is often used in medical and health contexts, particularly in relation to pregnancy and childbirth.
Definition[edit | edit source]
A woman is considered a primipara or 'primip' when she is pregnant with her first child or has given birth once. This includes women who have given birth to a single child or multiple children in one pregnancy. The term is used to distinguish women who are experiencing pregnancy and childbirth for the first time from those who have given birth previously, known as multipara.
Medical Considerations[edit | edit source]
Primiparas may face different medical considerations compared to multiparas. For example, they may be more likely to experience longer labors, and there is a higher risk of certain complications such as pre-eclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, and emergency cesarean section. However, with appropriate prenatal care and monitoring, these risks can be managed effectively.
