Spherical

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Spherical refers to something that is shaped like a sphere. In mathematics, a sphere is a perfectly round geometrical object in three-dimensional space. In the field of medicine, the term spherical is often used to describe the shape of certain parts of the body or cells.

Definition[edit | edit source]

A sphere is a set of points in three-dimensional space that are located at an equal distance r (the radius) from a given point (the center). The distance between any point of the sphere and its center is called the radius. This term is also used to denote less perfectly spherical objects, such as the earth, human eye, and cells.

Spherical in Medicine[edit | edit source]

In medicine, the term spherical is used to describe the shape of certain parts of the body or cells. For example, red blood cells are often described as being spherical. This shape allows them to move easily through the blood vessels.

Spherical Aberration in Ophthalmology[edit | edit source]

In ophthalmology, spherical aberration is a common optical problem that occurs when light passing through the cornea and the lens is not focused on the same point, causing blurred vision. This can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery.
