From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant, also known as marijuana. It is one of many compounds in cannabis, but it is the main psychoactive ingredient. THC is what gives marijuana its "high."

Chemical Structure[edit | edit source]

THC is a cannabinoid, a type of compound that interacts with specific receptors in the brain. Its chemical formula is C21H30O2. It has a molecular weight of 314.469 g/mol and a boiling point of 157 °C (315 °F).

Effects[edit | edit source]

When THC enters the body, it binds to cannabinoid receptors in the brain. This causes a variety of effects, including euphoria, relaxation, altered perception of time and space, and increased appetite. Some people also experience negative effects, such as anxiety, paranoia, and memory impairment.

Medical Use[edit | edit source]

THC has been used for medical purposes in some countries. It can help with symptoms such as pain, nausea, and lack of appetite. However, it can also have side effects, and its long-term effects are not fully understood.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of THC varies by country. In some places, it is illegal to possess or use THC. In others, it is legal for medical use. In some places, it is also legal for recreational use.
