Tablet Computer
A tablet computer, commonly shortened to tablet, is a mobile device, typically with a mobile operating system and touchscreen display processing circuitry, and a rechargeable battery in a single, thin and flat package. Tablets, being computers, do what other personal computers do, but lack some input/output (I/O) abilities that others have. Modern tablets largely resemble modern smartphones, the only differences being that tablets are relatively larger than smartphones, with screens 7 inches (18 cm) or larger, measured diagonally, and may not support access to a cellular network.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The term "tablet" is a shortened form of "tablet computer", which was coined to describe a new type of handheld computer that emerged in the early 2000s. The term is derived from the ancient practice of inscribing or writing on flat pieces of wood or stone, known as tablets.
History[edit | edit source]
The first patent for a system that recognized handwritten characters by analyzing the handwriting motion was granted in 1915. The first publicly demonstrated system using a tablet and handwriting recognition instead of a keyboard for working with a modern digital computer dates to 1956.
Types of Tablet Computers[edit | edit source]
There are two types of tablet computers: slate and booklet. The slate type is a typical tablet with only touchscreen input, while the booklet type is a dual-screen tablet with a hinge that can be folded like a laptop.
Customized Business Tablet[edit | edit source]
A customized business tablet is a type of tablet computer that is tailored to meet the specific needs of a business. These tablets often come with specialized software and hardware designed to assist in various business tasks.
