UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport
UPMC Williamsport, formerly known as UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport or Williamsport Regional Medical Center, is a 24-hour emergency hospital affiliated with the UPMC located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It was originally established in 1873 as the Williamsport Hospital and currently operates with at least 224 beds.
History[edit | edit source]
The Williamsport Hospital was established in 1873 in response to the need for a clean and caring environment for patients affected by industrial accidents in the early 1870s. It was granted a Charter by the Lycoming County Court upon petition by members of the Lycoming County Medical Society and prominent community members.[1]
In 1994, Williamsport Regional Medical Center became part of Susquehanna Health, an alliance of three hospitals. Later, on October 18, 2016, Williamsport Regional Medical Center joined the UPMC network when Susquehanna Health was integrated into the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).[2][3]
UPMC Williamsport offers a range of services including the Heart & Vascular Institute, a pharmacy, a 24-hour emergency department, inpatient services, and a family practice residency program.[4] It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
