University of Arkansas (often abbreviated as U of A, UArk, or simply UA) is a public research university in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas System and the largest university in the state.

The University of Arkansas was established in 1871 as the Arkansas Industrial University. It was renamed the University of Arkansas in 1899 and has since grown to become a major center of higher education and research.

Academics[edit | edit source]

The University of Arkansas offers more than 200 programs of study leading to bachelors, masters, doctoral, and law degrees. These are organized into 10 colleges and schools, including the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, the Sam M. Walton College of Business, and the College of Education and Health Professions.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The University of Arkansas campus is located in the city of Fayetteville, in the northwest corner of the state. The campus is known for its historic buildings, such as Old Main, and its extensive arboretum.

Athletics[edit | edit source]

The University of Arkansas's athletic teams, known as the Arkansas Razorbacks, compete in the Southeastern Conference of the NCAA Division I. The Razorbacks have won national championships in several sports, including football and basketball.

Notable alumni[edit | edit source]

Notable alumni of the University of Arkansas include former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright, and Walmart founder Sam Walton.
