Yukon is one of the three territories located in the northern part of the country. It is bordered by the Northwest Territories to the east, British Columbia to the south, and the U.S. state of Alaska to the west. The Arctic Ocean lies to the north. Yukon's capital and largest city is Whitehorse.

Yukon's history is marked by the famous Klondike Gold Rush, which began in 1896 and brought a massive influx of prospectors to the region. The territory was created in 1898 to bring order to the gold rush chaos. Prior to this, the area was populated by First Nations people for thousands of years.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Yukon's geography is characterized by its mountainous terrain and its many rivers, the largest of which is the Yukon River. The territory is also home to the highest mountain in Canada, Mount Logan, located in Kluane National Park and Reserve.

The economy of Yukon is primarily based on mining and tourism. The territory is rich in natural resources such as gold, silver, copper, and zinc. The tourism industry is driven by the territory's natural beauty and its historical significance related to the Klondike Gold Rush.

The majority of Yukon's population is of European descent, with a significant percentage of First Nations people. The official languages are English and French, but several First Nations languages are also spoken.

Yukon has a responsible government, with a commissioner who represents the federal government and a premier who is the head of government. The territory is represented in the Parliament of Canada by one member of the House of Commons and one senator.
