Α-Pyrrolidinoheptaphenone

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Α-Pyrrolidinoheptaphenone (also known as α-PHP, alpha-PHP, and PV-7) is a synthetic stimulant of the cathinone class. It is chemically similar to compounds such as MDPV (Methylenedioxypyrovalerone) and pyrovalerone, and is used recreationally for its psychoactive effects.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

Α-Pyrrolidinoheptaphenone is a synthetic cathinone, which is a type of amphetamine-like stimulant. Cathinones are naturally occurring substances found in the khat plant, but synthetic versions can be much more potent and dangerous. The chemical structure of α-PHP is similar to that of pyrovalerone, a drug first synthesized in the 1960s and used as an appetite suppressant and in the treatment of chronic fatigue.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of α-PHP can vary greatly depending on the dose and the individual's tolerance. At lower doses, it can produce feelings of euphoria, increased energy, and enhanced focus. At higher doses, it can cause hallucinations, paranoia, and severe anxiety. The drug can also cause physical side effects such as increased heart rate, high blood pressure, and in severe cases, heart attack or stroke.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of α-PHP varies by country. In the United States, it is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance, making it illegal to manufacture, distribute, or possess. In the United Kingdom, it is classified as a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Risks and Addiction[edit | edit source]

Like other synthetic cathinones, α-PHP has a high potential for abuse and addiction. Regular use can lead to tolerance, where higher doses are needed to achieve the same effects, and dependence, where withdrawal symptoms occur when the drug is not taken. Long-term use can also lead to severe mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and psychosis.
