11-OH-HHC
11-Hydroxy-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (commonly known as 11-OH-THC or 11-hydroxy-THC) is the main active metabolite of THC which is formed in the body after cannabis is consumed.[1] The conversion from THC to 11-OH-THC is relatively high when cannabis is consumed in the form of edibles and it is responsible for the intensified and prolonged effects.[2]
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
11-OH-THC is more potent than THC and crosses the blood-brain barrier more easily.[3] 11-OH-THC is metabolized in the liver into 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC, a metabolite which is longer lived and can be used as a marker in urine tests for THC consumption.[4]
