One Direction (often abbreviated as 1D) was a British-Irish boy band formed in 2010 during the reality TV show The X Factor. The group consisted of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. One Direction was formed when the individual members auditioned as solo artists for The X Factor but were later brought together to form a group by Simon Cowell.
